Porcelain Veneers Replacement By Dr. Tim Simpson on October 07, 2013

Sweetwater Porcelain VeneersPorcelain veneers are among the most popular treatments in cosmetic dentistry for good reason. In terms of their natural appearance, durability, and ability to transform nearly any smile from dull and flawed to extraordinary, veneers represent aesthetic dentistry at its pinnacle. Especially when placed by a dentist with the skill and experience of Dr. Tim Simpson, serving Sweetwater and neighboring communities, porcelain veneers offer a multitude of benefits unmatched by any other cosmetic treatment.

Nevertheless, porcelain veneers can require replacement for any number of reasons. If you are searching for a dentist to replace your veneers, you can trust Dr. Simpson to provide you with outstanding results that will last for years. As a patient of Dr. Simpson’s, you can rest assured that the replacement of your new porcelain veneers won’t be something you have to worry about again for a long, long time.

Reasons for Having to Replace Porcelain Veneers

Although porcelain veneers are generally durable and hard-wearing, they will eventually require replacement, regardless of their quality. With proper care and regular dental appointments, veneers can last for a decade or longer. Over time, however, they will become increasingly susceptible to chipping, breaking, or other aesthetic flaws; even pristine veneers can become dislodged or simply fall off as a result of the bond becoming weakened. Dr. Simpson makes sure that his patients understand before they undergo treatment that their veneers will one day need to be replaced.

Some patients choose to have their porcelain veneers replaced because they are dissatisfied with the appearance or feel of their veneers. Not all dentists have the eye for aesthetics that Dr. Simpson has; likewise, not all dentists take into account the patient’s bite or the relationships between the structures of his or her mouth in determining the specifications of the veneers. In such cases, Dr. Simpson can replace unnatural-looking or ill-fitting veneers with new veneers that are ideally tailored to the patient’s unique needs and goals. Patients emerge from treatment with the radiant, beautiful smiles they deserve and desire.

There are also cases in which inexperienced dentists simply don’t bond the veneers properly to the teeth, resulting in the veneers falling off prematurely. If you need to have your porcelain veneers replaced, Dr. Simpson can be trusted to do the job properly and to your ultimate satisfaction.

Why Must Veneers Be Replaced?

In general, porcelain veneers are not a reversible treatment. This is because the natural teeth must be structurally altered prior to the placement of the veneers. Although the amount of enamel that must be removed from the teeth is relatively small, it is usually significant enough to render the “bare” teeth aesthetically and functionally unsuitable to be left without veneers. Even during the period when the patient’s replacement veneers are being crafted, temporary veneers will have to be placed.

Patients who are fitted with Lumineers®, also available at Dr. Simpson’s practice, may be the exception to this rule. This is because Lumineers® are ultra-thin and generally do not require the removal of any enamel prior to their placement. Of course, most patients will want to have their Lumineers® replaced when the time comes; however, they will have the option to leave their teeth in their natural state.
